As timing has it, y’all are most likely reading this as I’m somewhere in the sun or cruising on a ship.

I told my wife before I started my new gig (at new company next week!!), I’d take some much-needed time for R&R to prep my mind for a marathon ahead.

During my time off, I’ve had a chance to reflect on how one’s personal life is absolutely tied to their professional. How the healthier you are mentally, the more you can show up professionally.

LinkedIn is full of tips on this, so this week is more of a peek inside a few podcasts and content I found helpful, inspiring, and motivating.

As you embark on your own journey (see what I did there?) my hope is you may find the time to recharge and refresh.

In this week’s edition of Stretch Weekly -

  • Joubin Mirzadegan looks back at nine past interviews and the advice shared by guests who have been through difficult personal challenges.

And don’t miss this week’s snippets with some slightly different focuses as we look to mesh the personal and professional side of being a leader.

THANKS for reading!!

9 Intersections of Personal and Professional

I seriously love the podcast Grit with Joubin Mirzadegan. I’ve talked about and shared episodes from him before, but I really enjoyed this one at a key point of my professional life.

I remember listening to a bunch of these episodes, but having him condense a few key soundbites all relating to melding the professional and personal - was an ear opener.

Description: Grit has never been just about business, and success is not a vaccine against stress, anxiety, or depression. On today’s special episode, Joubin looks back at nine past interviews and the advice shared by guests who have been through difficult personal challenges.

STRETCH SNIPPETS

  • 🚦Alright, alright, alright. Last year I read Matthew MacConaughey’s book Greenlights and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve often reflected back on that book and the crazy, successful, authentic life he’s had. So when I came across this thread on the 8 lessons from the book, I bookmarked it and thought I’d share.

  • ❤️ Loved this podcast from Greg McKeown on living with regrets. “Have you ever had a wake-up call where you just suddenly realize you have missed what really mattered? Most of us have learned that we are supposed to live with no regrets, but this, I think, is wrong.”

  • 🎓 A masterclass from James Clear on habits to make 2023 your best year: Good Questions > Advice Execute First, Eat Later Discipline > Motivation Something > Nothing Detach and Assess

🧠 Mindset

Never give up on your dreams. Check out this amazing story of resilience and perseverance. 10 years out of college - Scotty Hopson living his NBA Dream.

Thanks for reading!

My hope is if you find this valuable, consider sharing it with friends (or signing up if you haven’t already).
